I LOVE An Idiot Abroad.
I would absolutely love to travel, but I find myself wondering how I would react to different situations you would probably find yourself in when overseas. And I feel like I would react the same way in a lot of the situations he's in.
I highly recommend anyone watch this if you're looking for a good laugh. This show makes me weep with laughter.
Speaking of laughter, according to an article by Psychology Today, laughter:
-"...establishes -- or restores -- a positive emotional climate and a sense of connection between two people, In fact, some researchers believe that the major function of laughter is to bring people together."
-"It reduces pain and allows us to tolerate discomfort"
-It can help with diabetics by reducing blood sugar levels
-It can improve your job performance"
-"...helps your blood vessels function better"
The article also mentions that laughter is key to a happy marriage. I really think it's the key to a happy life. If you're able to take crummy situations and find something positive, find something to laugh about, you can improve your mood and your health. Perhaps you can create a positive space with which to find a solution to the problem-if there is one.
I had a friend tell me last night that on her first anniversary, she and her husband planned a nice trip to a B&B for a weekend. On the drive over, she started to feel ill. When they got there, she was pretty sick, so they spent the whole next day laying in bed with 'tissues everywhere'. She said she was determined to spend the last day out, enjoying the vacation. She ended up in Urgent Care the next day...
I tend to be a positive person, so I find the bright side in most things. I told her, what a great story! It's one of those stories where things went wrong and nothing went right. Now, of course, it wasn't funny then! And it's certainly a frustrating situation. BUT, you can't change it! And it's a story where most people would laugh at just the ridiculousness of it! There are times in life where you just have to do that!
If there's not a solution to the situation, and you can't laugh about the situation (let's face it, laughter isn't always appropriate), find something that uplifts your spirit. Find something that brings light to your spirit.
We all have bad days, for sure. But find something that makes you laugh. Maybe your boyfriend, husband, friend doesn't think it's funny, but that's okay! Whatever you can find in life that makes you put a smile on your face and laughter in your heart.
Cause let's be honest, it's good to laugh.
